Most will be 5 to 6 digits in length, but the earliest examples feature 4 digit serial numbers. There should be a space after the 1st digit with the 4 and 5 digit serial numbers, and no space with the 6 digit numbers. The 1st digit indicates the year of manufacture for the 4 & 5 digit serial numbers. Using skype for business with mac. Last official number? 1993: 820xxx parts were sent to Courtois for assembly: 1994: manufacture of low brass transferred to B&S, Courtois for cornets and alto horns. 1997: 852299: 1998: 865491: 2001: Production moved to Besson plant in Croxley Green (Watford) where Schreiber parts were briefly used (Schreiber and Besson were part of the same.
Where can I find information on this horn?
Thanks
Brian
That number is in a similar range to my euphonium (also in the middle 500,000's as I recall), which traced to 1974. Besson has a serial number search page, but it is apparently not working--your serial number was not found, and I couldn't find any serial numbers that would provide a response.

Let's just say that Besson's web design lags behind the instruments, and form our own conclusions about what that might mean.
